Artist Statement

Nothing is forever except change.” Buddhist Proverb

Living in the lower mainland since the early 90’s I have seen a lot of change in the local landscape; such as beautiful forests, farms, large acre lots and even ALR land being rezoned to build row upon row of townhomes, subdivisions and commercial buildings. Sometimes change is felt less when you live within the area that it happens, creeping up on you somewhat incrementally, but lately, especially in the South Surrey/White Rock area, the changes have been exponential. In my works the focus is on landscape with special attention to capturing moments in time, soon to be changed by development. Sometimes I feel like a rock, sitting and watching in fast motion as the world grows and changes around me, unable to breath, move or influence its amendment. I am not indifferent to change, but I feel powerless, distant and saddened as it affects me deeply in my daily existence- I want to know if it affects other as profoundly. This project is a way to find out.
